Wig Revival: Breathing life back into frayed strands
For Synthetic Wigs:
Detangling: You’ll want to start by gently detangling the frayed areas using a wide-tooth comb or a wig brush designed for synthetic hair. It’s important to be patient and work through small sections at a time to avoid causing further damage.
Steam Treatment: Use a handheld garment steamer (yes, you heard us correctly!) to carefully steam the frayed sections. Just as you would with your delicate clothing items, keep the steamer at a safe distance to prevent damage. This can help reshape and revive the synthetic fibers.
Fabric Softener Rinse: You can mix a small amount of fabric softener with cold water and immerse the wig in the solution.Very gently swish the wig around and let it soak for a few minutes. Make sure you rinse thoroughly with cold water to get all of the softener out!
Trimming: The quickest way to help revive your wig, is to visit the salon and have them trim any excessively frayed or damaged ends with sharp scissors- You’ll want to ask if they are experienced in cutting wigs, in advance! Avoid cutting too much at once – it's better to trim gradually until you achieve the desired look.
For Human Hair Wigs:
Deep Conditioning: Apply a high-quality, moisturizing conditioner to the frayed sections of the wig. Leave the conditioner on for an extended period or follow the manufacturer's recommended time for deep conditioning.
Hot Oil Treatment: Treat your human hair wig to a hot oil treatment using natural oils like coconut or argan oil. Apply the warm oil to the frayed areas, cover with a shower cap, and leave it on for at least 30 minutes before washing. Give us a call, if you’d like us to tackle this for you!
General Tips for Both Types:
Avoid Heat Damage: When styling, use low-heat settings on styling tools to prevent further damage and protect synthetic wigs by avoiding direct exposure to heat sources!
Gentle Washing: Wash your wig with a mild wig shampoo and conditioner, following the care instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Preventative Care: Invest in a wig stand to maintain the wig's shape when not in use.Brush and detangle your wig regularly to prevent future fraying.
Reviving a frayed wig is totally possible with the right care and attention! Whether your wig is made of synthetic fibers or human hair, these tips can help you bring it back to life, restoring its vibrancy and ensuring that you continue to enjoy a fabulous, styled look. Remember to be gentle in your approach and adjust the techniques based on the specific needs of your wig. Best of luck!
